Smålands Museum is beautifully located in the city of Växjö. It is actually a collection of museums incorporating the Kronoberg Agricultural Museum in Hjärtenholm, the ruins of the Kronoberg fortress near Alvesta, and the steamboat S/S Thor that is berthed at Kronoberg.

Smålands Museum in Växjö with its international reputation comes from its collections of Swedish-made glass of all types across five centuries, as well textiles, church furnishings, archaeological finds and agricultural history. The museum tells the cultural history of the region, which was primarily farmland down the centuries, before industrialization, and more recently the centre of all things glass in Sweden.

The big names of the Swedish glass industry; Kosta Boda and Orrefors are represented and the museum has permanent and temporary exhibitions of glass objects depicting the past, present and future of art glass and the glass industry.

Swedish art glass is world famous and Smålands Museum is an excellent starting point if you want to know more about it.
