Castles get built, castles get destroyed and they are adapted to the suit the purposes of the age. And then in peacetime they become museums. Just like Malmöhus Castle.
Castles get built, castles get destroyed and they are adapted to the suit the purposes of the age. And then in peacetime they become museums. Just like Malmöhus Castle. The fascinating history of this castle starts in 1436 when Eric of Pomerania built a citadel here, which was destroyed. Turn the clock forward to 1537 and King Christian 111 builds the castle that you will see today. Back then, and indeed until 1658 the castle and the surrounding region was part of Denmark. Up until 1914 the castle was used as a prison and it must have been a pretty uninviting place to be incarcerated. But the castle is now used for more cultural purposes and houses some of the collections of Malmo Museums. The castle grounds, buildings and the moat around them are all worth visiting.
