No. of Holes: 27
Length: 4468m, 5498m
Type of Course: Designed by legendary course architect Douglas Brasier, the golf course at the fine Gullbringa Golf & Country Club opened in 1967. Built on a farm estate dating from the 14th century, the course brings out the best of its west coast setting.
What do you get?
Three courses in one is the answer. Gullbringa is three nine-hole courses adding up to an 18-hole championship course and a 9-holer. The management changes the layout every week at these parkland courses surrounded by birch forest. The fairways are wide and generous; the greens are smooth and fair. Looks can deceive though; there is plenty of trouble in the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.
Included in the green fee (‘pay and play’) is access to Gullbringa’s country club and open-air swimming pool. So, after a round of golf, have dip and sip a cocktail. Nice.
And for a bit of name-dropping, LPGA tour winners Helen Alfredsson and Carin Koch are past club champions and Henrik Stensson (winner of Players Championship), started out as a junior here.
Accommodation: The club partners with several nearby hotels in Gothenburg including Quality Hotel Winn, Quality Hotel Panorama, Quality Hotel 11, Clarion Hotel Odin and Scandic.
It also offers packages with Hotel Fars Hatt in the town of Kungälv. The Grand Hotell Marstrand, Villa Maritime and Marstrands Havshotell on the island of Marstrand are also partner hotels.
Restaurant: Prize-winning on-course restaurant ‘Gullkrogen’ offers lunch specials and à la carte overlooking the 18th green.
