The Picasso sculpture in Kristinehamn, Värmland

One of Pablo Picasso’s largest sculptures stands atop a rocky cape overlooking Vålösund (Vålö Bay) in Lake Vänern, just outside the town of Kristinehamn in the west of Sweden.
The 15 metre tall concrete sculpture is part of the artist’s ‘Les dames de Mougins’ series of paintings and sculptures themed on his wife Jacueline. The sculpture may or may not be to your taste, but we think you’ll love the trip here by boat from Kristinehamn. There are several to choose from, one being the M/S Hulda from Café Pärlan. On the shoreline you’ll see turn of the century villas, cafés, beachside cabins and hundreds of sailing boats. The boat trip takes around one hour. By car the trip is 6 km, through verdant Värmland countryside, following the brown road signs out of town.
Kristinehamn is a very attractive lakeside town with great shopping and a host of restaurants and cafés offering traditional Värmland and international fare. Look out for freshly caught Vänern pan-fried salmon, as well as elk and deer salami. High quality accommodation options in and around Kristinehamn include hotels, B&B, cottages and cabins for rent, as well as hostels and campsites.
