Welcome to one of Northern Europe's leading breeding facilities for the conservation of the European bison, less commonly known as the wisent. The European bison is an endangered species.
After the First World War there were only around 50 individuals left in Europe. Today there are almost 3000 European bison living in various zoological and national parks. The animal enclosure in Avesta surrounds a little farm dating back to the turn of the 19th century. In the Barn Café you can have something nice to eat or just have a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. If you choose a guided tour you will get to see the bison up close, and hear the story of how the park got started,
