    European Figure Skating Championships

    Experience the excitement and drama on the ice when some of the world’s greatest figure skaters compete for the medals. During the week the skaters, single men and ladies, pairs and ice dance couples, will compete in their Short Program and Free Skate.     Helena Franzén is one of Sweden’s foremost choreographers in contemporary dance, with over 70 works in 20 years. Helena and Ori met in New York back in the 90’s and have since then continuously met in different contexts in the dance world.

  • Sami National Day 06 February 2015
    Sami National Day

    The Sami National Day falls on February 6 as this date was when the first Sámi congress was held in 1917 in Trondheim, Norway. This congress was the first time that Norwegian and Swedish Sámi came together across their national borders to work together to find solutions for common problems.

    At Skansen the Sami national day is celebrated with music, speeches and souvas - a savoury dish of reindeer meat - among other things.

    Vikingarännet is an annual ice-skating race taking place on Lake Mälaren, between Uppsala and Stockholm, approximetly 80km. Vikingarännet normally takes place in the mid of February. The date will be set about 1-2 weeks before.

    Fettisdagen - Shrove Tuesday

    The Swedish name for the Tuesday after the Quinquagesima and the day between Shrove Monday and Ash Wednesday. Because it is the last day before the Lenten fast, a tradition has developed of eating buns, called "fastlagsbullar", "fettisdagsbullar" (Fat Tuesday Buns) or "semla". The day is also called "White Tuesday" because the buns are made out of white flour.

    The annual Gothenburg Horse Show in the Scandinavium Arena was held for the first time in the spring of 1977. Since then 2.5 miljon visitors have seen the great stars competing in Gothenburg, in showjumping as well as in dressage. Furthermore, since 1992, the Gothenburg Horse Show has collaborated successfully with the fair EuroHorse.

    The Passion for Food

    The Passion for Food Festival is an established event in Gothenburg, where food enthusiasts can find an exciting range of handpicked producers, as well as ingredients from quality suppliers of food and drinks.

    At the exhibition you will find a selection of drinks, often presented as a complement to the food – wine, beer, aperitif, avec and champagne, but also new, exciting alcohol-free alternatives. Drink coupons for wine and beer tasting can be bought at the event.

  • Vasaloppet - the challenge 28 February 2015 - 08 March 2015
    Vasaloppet - the challenge

    The world’s longest cross-country race between Sälen and Mora in Dalarna covering 90 km (56 miles) with some 30,000 participants. The week begins on the 27th of February, with something for the whole family, KortVasan, 30 km in classic style from Oxberg. Then follow TjejVasan, Öppet spår, HalvVasan, StafettVasan and the whole week culminating with Vasaloppet itself on March 8.
