On the hunting menu
Sweden offers a lot of birds and game. Wing shooting covers wood, willow and hazel grouse, ptarmigan, black grouse cock, geese and duck. Game hunting includes roebuck, elk (moose), reindeer, red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, European bison, and beaver.
Elk hunting with dogs
Involve a trained elk dog in your hunt and make life easy. Your dog not only locates the elk, but then holds it at bay while you catch up. Hunt one-on-one, or in a group. The only thing the dog will not do is shoot the elk.
Organizing a hunting trip to Sweden
Go hunting as a "paying guest" via tours with landowners and hunting co-operatives. Your Swedish hunting host can arrange your hunting permit and insurance. You need to obtain permission from the Swedish authorities to bring your own firearm or you can borrow firearms from a Swedish hunter as long as the owner of the weapon is with you on the hunt and you are at least 15 years of age.
See The Swedish Association for Hunting and Wildlife Management (Svenska Jägareförbundet) for details.
Did you know?
Sweden has the world’s highest density of elk (moose) what with a population of one quarter of a million. More than you can point your firearm at.
Tips?
If you don’t feel like going the whole hog with hunting you can go on wildlife watching tours with Wild Sweden.
