Hip hangouts

For French sophistication, can-can all the way to your table at Brasserie Le Rouge, or Bistro Sud at  Swedenborgsgatan 8 A for classics. The Och Himlen Därtill sky bar wows with city views and Ljunggren at Götgatan 36 is a hip media hub serving Japanese dishes. Go to Pubologi for communal long tables and the deli bar in Restaurang AG does superb tapas and wine by the glass. Marie Laveau does not disappoint with a New Orleans vibe, Southern food, and killer cocktails.

Waterside beauties

The Cadier Bar is the Grand Hôtel’s bar, classic in every way. Go to Eriks Gondolen Bar for elevated Stockholm city views, Lydmar for the epitome of good taste, Orangeriet Bar in summer, and B.A.R. for a cross between a seafood restaurant, aquarium and bistro bar.

Central favourites

Grill is a themed hot-spot owned by celebrity chef Melker Andersson and
Scandic Grand Central Bar is the newest buzz in town. Guldbaren at Nobis Hotel serves award-winning cocktails and Niklas/Kåken is a hideaway beloved by trendy Stockholmers who like their Swedish food with impressive cocktail offerings.

Downtown happening spots

For seasonal bistro fare with class, go to Museet. Meat lovers should not miss Vassa Eggen or Zink Grill. Bistro Jarl has one of the best råraka (Swedish caviar and potato pancake dish) in town. Riche is Stockholm’s favourite spot to see and be seen in, and Sturehof is a reliable, refined Stockholm institution. Story Hotel attracts the cool crowd and Berns impresses as an all-rounder with its famed bar and nightclub, bistro fare, and accomplished Asian menu.

The spot on Södermalm? Urban Deli. It’s hip. It’s hot. And it’s where the customers are so laid back they might as well be horizontal. Welcome to Urban Deli – about as cool as a place can be in Stockholm’s retro-funky Södermalm. This concrete and steel social hip-hot spot has it all. It’s a sociable bar, diner, food hall and organic grocery store all-in-one.

Tips?

Get top-class husmanskost (traditional Swedish fare) in two Stockholm institutions and local classics; Pelikan and Kvarnen beer halls, both on Södermalm.
