A large number of new establishments have also opened, offering spas and wellness, cozy accommodation and fine gastronomy, all included in holistic experiences that often also include nature, as many of these new facilities are housed in splendid natural settings. Most of them stay open through the off-season as well. Spring and autumn are ideal seasons for a weekend visit for those who wish to savour Sweden´s unique mix of calm, quiet, exquisite and meditative natural experiences, and pleasures for body, mind and soul, whether your desire is the the open landscape and long white beaches of Skåne, the barren, dramatic scenery of the islands of Gotland or Öland, or the deep, fairy-tale forests and lakelands of Västergötland, Dalsland, Småland or Östergötland.

Southern Sweden´s most famous and distinguished classic spa resort is Varberg on the coast of Halland, with a tradition dating back to the 19th century. The beautiful wooden cold bath house from 1902 is a monument to the town´s proud heritage.
