Swedish Lapland

Where can it be – 40 C in winter, and +30 C in summertime? Where is Europe’s last wilderness and home to Europe’s only indigenous people, the Sami? Where is the land of eight seasons, the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun? Northern Sweden. Swedish Lapland.

Dog sledding in Swedish Lapland

The Northern Lights

The Aurora Sky Station in the Abisko National Park is purpose-built for viewing the greatest light show on earth – the Northern Lights. And because of its practically permanent cloud-free skies there’s no better place to see them. Visit Abisko Mountain Station, take a chairlift to Aurora Sky Station, have a gourmet dinner, sit back, look up and watch one of the greatest shows on earth.

Midnight Sun

In the height of summer, it’s non-stop daylight here. Ski all the way into summer at the exotically remote Riksgränsen. Play golf 24/7. Seriously. The rivers of Skellefteå offer wild salmon and trout fishing and Umeå is good for biking, canoeing, boating and even rock-climbing.

Ain’t no mountain high enough

Mountaineers and hikers appreciate the major Swedish Lapland mountain resorts such as Abisko, Björkliden and Riksgränsen, and to the massif around Kebnekaise, Sweden´s highest mountain, another cherished centre for hikers and adventurers.

Do, see, meet

There’s a lot to do here year round. Hiking, downhill and cross country skiing, fishing, canoeing and river rafting, climbing, snowmobiling, cycling, dog sledding, reindeer rides, and icebreaker tours. And you can meet the Sami people – the native Scandinavians, with their unique culture, handicrafts and traditions. You can even have dinner on ice in the Gulf of Bothnia off the city of Luleå.

Hotels with a difference

Northern Sweden, includes Swedish Lapland, and is where you will find the world famous ICEHOTEL, where you can eat off ice plates, drink from ice glasses and sleep in -5 C in a hotel made of ice and snow. Or stay in the Treehotel which is – yes – a hotel in the trees near Luleå. It is a collection of luxury tree houses including the UFO, a Room with a View, the Mirrorcube, the Tree Sauna and the Bird’s Nest.
