Visitors will enjoy strolling around the idyllic steets, many of which are reserved for pedestrians, with most sights, attractions, restaurants and shops just a short walk away. In the centre, there are many interesting buildings from various historical periods, including wooden houses from as far back as the 1500s.
Just a stone’s throw from the Stora Torget square, in the old industrial harbour, an entire city district has been built over the past decade, simply named Västra hamnen (West Harbour).
Malmö is famous for its many beautiful parks and vast green areas. Slottsparken (The Castle Park), opened in 1900, and the adjacent, and older, Kungsparken (King´s Park) are popular green areas with generous open spaces and numerous beautiful ponds.
For stage perfomances, the Malmö Opera & Music Theatre offers a most varied programme, from classical opera to musicals and children´s concerts. The opera building is a beautiful modernist classic, design by a trio of renowned architects led by master modernist Sigurd Lewerentz, and inaugurated in 1944.
Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö are modern bustling metropolises, but they all share a secret.
