Where to start the night
Lilla Torg (‘Little Square’) in Malmö city centre is where the action starts. Popular bars here include Mello Yello bar and restaurant at Lilla Torg 1, Bar Celona for drinks and tapas at Adelgatan 2 and Harrys Bar pub and restaurant at Södergatan 14. For drinks, eats and a look at the locals in party-mode go to Victors in the middle of the square.
On and on
From ‘little square’ to ‘big square’. Stortorget (‘Big Square’) is another nightlife hotspot in Malmö and just round the corner from Lilla Torg (‘Little Square’). Pay a visit to Etage nightclub at Stortorget 6 for its five bars and two dance floors and all flavours of hits-to-house music. Nearby Deep, at Amiralsgatan 20, puts on a 90s night on Saturdays on its two dance floors. So if you just can’t get enough of Depeche Mode or Ace of Base, this is the place for you. Around the corner at Spångatan 38, you’ll find Babel ‘a concert, club and dance Mecca’ according to the owner. It’s in an old church and has a huge lit crucifix above the front door. Has to be worth a visit.
For legendary live rock music try Kulturbolaget, or ‘KB’ in local-speak on Bergsgatan 18. In the same building, on the corner, Vinylbaren, an American-style diner, does burgers and club nights.
Bring the evening (or morning) to a close at the Malmö Brygghus, a former chocolate factory that is now a club. Sweet.
For all things nocturnal in Malmö go here.
