For stage perfomances, the Malmö Opera & Music Theatre offers a most varied programme, from classical opera to musicals and children´s concerts. The opera building is a beautiful modernist classic, design by a trio of renowned architects led by master modernist Sigurd Lewerentz, and inaugurated in 1944.

The Malmö Dramatic Theatre performs on two stages, one in the Hippodrom, a charming historical circus building, the other in the opera complex. Skåne dansteater (The Scania Dance Theatre) re-opened in 2005 in a spectacular new venue in a former factory building in the old shipyard area now under rapid transformation into a modern new cityscape. Its repertoire is modern dance at the international forefront.
