Urban chic
For leading Swedish and international brands, shop at leading Swedish department store, Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), for four storeys and 45 stores of fashion, beauty and interiors.
High street retail
For a therapeutic dose of affordable high street retail, shop on Avenyn, the main street and shopping thoroughfare of Gothenburg. But if you prefer everything under one roof, shop in Nordstan, Scandinavia’s largest shopping centre.
Vintage
Haga is the district to head for if you have kooky vintage and creative alternative designers in mind. Loved as much by locals as visitors, the pretty cobbled streets are riddled with odds’n’ends type shops where you can pick up an antique as easily as a handmade hat (Ateljé Hörnan).
For U.S. and Canadian handpicked vintage pieces from the turn of the century until the 1990s, shop at Beyond Retro in the Arkaden shopping centre. Ebbe & Haldis is the place for quality vintage and re-made products. Recycled vintage is on offer at studio and shop, Rifatto. And for French inspired bohemian chic? Miss Ragtime.
Environmentally friendly fashion
Fashionista favourite, Nudie jeans, are on track to using only organic cotton in production. And The Dem Collective is a fair trade and organic textiles brand hand-making their own jeans where each pair is numbered. Get recycled clothing, furniture, books, records, glass, porcelain, household items, paintings, carpets, shoes, accessories and jewellery at Myrorna.
Swedish design
The Röhsska shop is magic for collecting the latest in trend-setting Swedish household design objects from ceramics to glassware with the focus on pure Scandinavian functionality. For quirky household and personal design objects stop off at Designtorget, where new design talent gives trendy new meaning in everything from jewellery to kitchenware and children’s toys.
Cultural souvenirs
Victoriapassagen is a most charming roofed pedestrian street where you can pick up Swedish handicrafts as well as designs from the indigenous Sami people of Swedish Lapland. The cobbled and bohemian Haga district also carries an abundance of tasteful souvenir shops, art galleries and antique emporiums.
Historical shopping hub
Kronhusbodarna is a collection of Gothenburg’s oldest secular buildings dating from the 1640s but is now a concert venue and hub of handicrafts, housing shops and workshops. Visit the glassworks, interiors shop, watchmaker and pottery workshop. The chocolate and toffee shop is a delight, and you can get freshly made cakes at the bakery and café.

Tip:
Fika (coffee break) must not be missed at the best chocolate makers cafe in town – Café Kanold, which is situated at Grönsakstorget. There are also Flickorna Kanold chocolatier shops at Södra Larmgatan 14 and Stora Saluhallen 132.
