Fine dining in Gothenburg

Gothenburg – renowned for its cold-ocean matured seafood with richly flavoured and deeply mineral laden shellfish. The North Atlantic provides Sweden with a rich playground for some of the world’s top fish loving chefs. Expect creative, yet classic menus with intensely clean, flavours – so much so, that the seafood practically speak for themselves. But we suggest you eat your fish – much more enjoyable than talking to it.

Guide Michelin Bib Gourmand

The Bib award is for establishments noted for excellent, affordable dining. Gothenburg’s best is the funky Familjen famous for inventive cooking and its open plan kitchen.

The White Guide

The White Guide is Sweden’s esteemed and trusted version of Guide Michelin that no self-respecting food loving Swede leaves home without. All the Guide Michelin rated restaurants also appear in The White Guide, and the other award winning, locally renowned high-class establishments include Wasa Allé for shockingly good combinations, and for fine dining with balls? Go to the eclectic Magnus & Magnus m2. And they have a large disco ball in the main room. Eat at Swedish Taste for harbourside refinement with notedly good tasting menu combinations. Linnéa Art Restaurant unites food and art in the restaurant and on the plate. And for refined seafood classics, book into Fiskekrogen.

Tips?

Trust the sommeliers. Gothenburg has some of the best. Award winning experiences with food and wine matching must be experienced to be believed at Kock & Vin, so this is not a time to count the pennies. Go for the full wine ‘packet’ to match each course on your menu.

Can’t get a booking? Go the Fish Church for lunch. No kidding. It’s called ‘Feskekörka’ and is a converted church housing a fish market and top-notch seafood restaurants. Praise the lord. Some of the fine dining restaurants also open for lunch. Check with the individual restaurant websites.

When?

Many of the high-end restaurants actually close down on Sundays, and some for the summer (and for a period after Christmas) – so it is best check with individual websites and book ahead.
