Sweden had been tipped as a potential winner even ahead of the final but faced stiff competition from the Russian 'grannies' as well as Serbia's Željko Joksimović.

Despite being a nation with a fairly small population, Sweden has managed to put itself on the world map with its many musical talents - Sweden is one of the biggest exporters of music in the world!

The Eurovision Song Contest is a big event in Sweden and Swedes take the contest very seriously. Sweden has won the Eurovision Song Contest five times, most famously in 1974 with Abba's classic 'Waterloo'. Last year Eric Saade finished third in the competition.

British entry Engelbert Humperdinck with his ballad Love Will Set You Free, finished second from last - despite high hopes.
