Words are sometimes not enough, but we’ll try

The Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef are, of course, two of the world’s most famous natural wonders and deservedly so. And we think that the archipelagos of Sweden are right up there with them.

Stretching from the northeast coast of Sweden, down most of the south-east coast and then wrapping around the west coast, the four major Swedish archipelagos are sparkling havens of peace and tranquillity. You can island-hop and camp wherever you go. You can rent a cottage, or stay in a hotel or B&B. You can rent a canoe or kayak, or sail between the islands. There are thousands of small barren isles, bare rocky skerries and larger forest-covered islands that are easily accessed from the mainland.

You could spend a lifetime visiting the archipelagos of Sweden – and what a lifetime it would be.

Do remember that in Sweden you have the Right of Public Access, and please also remember to leave the countryside as you found it – untouched. Also please respect the privacy rights of others. Couldn’t be simpler.

Pleasures by the sea

The long, languishing coastlines that lie to the east and west in southern Sweden are dotted with fishing harbours and marinas, coastal towns and beach resorts set against a natural backdrop that is as uniquely Swedish as it is gorgeous. Just off the coast, the islands of Gotland and Öland are waiting to show you their charms.
