Designhotellet Scandic
Designhotellet in Värnamo

Organisation/Company:

Designhotellet Scandic Värnamo

Designhotellet in Värnamo is matchless because of its architecture and the design of its rooms. And, in a world where one hotel is much the same as the next, Designhotellet exudes a bygone style and aesthetic in a highly contemporary setting.

The genuinely charming town of Värnamo in Småland, is situated in the heart of “Möbelriket” (“the furniture kingdom”) the collective name for the area around Lammhult in Småland and the heart of the Swedish furniture design industry and interior design industry. Here you will find world famous names such as Lammhults, Bruno Mathsson International, Källemo, Abstracta and others.

Designhotellet is located in the centre of Värnamo, which is surrounded by forests and lakes. The hotel takes up prime position in a pedestrian precinct filled with superb shopping, and restaurants and bars offering the local cuisine. The hotel offers 120 rooms, of which there are several specially designed suites, as well as a restaurant and bar, al fresco dining, sauna and relax department. The Bruno Mathsson Center, Ohsabanan and Store Mosse National Park are nearby, while the Vidfamne Viking Ship is a 30-minute walk and High Chaparral, a western theme amusement park, is a 20-minute drive.

Designhotellet is the perfect base from which to see Småland, best known for its forests and beautiful lakes and the farmers who emigrated from here to the USA in the 1900s. Although it is a “design hotel” there is nothing “designer” about the quality and friendliness of service offered by the staff of Designhotellet. Enjoy your stay.

Do visit the Bruno Mathsson Center to see this legendary designer’s work.

Swedish design

It’s almost like the “d” in “Swedish Design” should be a capital letter given its renown the world over.

Visiting Sweden, you’ll find great Swedish design all around you. On buildings at Stadshuset, the Stockholm Library on Odengatan, the Turning Torso building in Malmö, in shops, on street signs, on road signs (the strolling elk set against a yellow background, within a red triangle) in hotels, on buses and trains and the clothes that people wear. There is much to celebrate about Swedish form and design, from the ‘Falu red” cottages of Dalarna, to the art glass and crystal of Orrefors. A visit to Sweden will inspire new ideas and you might just find yourself redecorating your home on your return.

For cool designer clothes look out for Swedish brands Odd Molly, Filippa K, WE and Björn Borg and if you want to buy jeans with a conscience check out Cheap Monday.
