Nedre Dalälven

Färnebofjärden National Park in the Nedre Dalälven (Lower Dalälven River) region of Sweden is a unique natural environment teeming with life in a mosaic of special habitats. The park is famous for its rich birdlife, and has been a popular place for ornithologists to visit since the 1970s.

The riverside fens and meadows, floodplains and ancient forest in the park are home to two hundred bird species and some twenty species of fish, together with elks (moose), roe deer, mountain hares, red foxes, pine martens, beavers, wood lemmings and lynx. You can get up close to the flora and fauna here by renting a canoe or kayak, or by taking one of the guided bird watching or boat tours arranged by the visitor centre (Naturrum). The park also has a viewing tower at Skekarsbo from which you might just spot some of the creatures that live here.

Located at the edge of roaring rapids in the historic setting of Gysinge Bruk, the visitor centre (Naturrum) is a must. The various exhibits here are free and you can see, touch, listen, smell and learn more about the natural and human history of the park. You can even arrange to go on nature spotting activities such as bat-spotting trips (evenings only) and get tips and advice on what to do and where to go in the park from the friendly staff.

Play golf in Sweden

Sweden has made a name for itself as a golfing nation with the success of golfing legend Annika Sörenstam and leading PGA Tour players Carl Petterson and Henrik Stenson. This is an achievement made more remarkable given Sweden’s long winters, but unsurprising given the quality of Sweden’s golf courses.
