Åre Sleddog Adventures

Dog sledding through the white wilderness of the Jämtland Mountains.

Tommy Bernhardsson, a born-and-bred Jämtlander and professional dog musher, runs Åre Dog Sled Adventures. So you are in capable hands as you dog sleigh through the white-clad forests, flatlands, lakes and mountains of Jämtland. Alaskan Huskies, bred for the task, pull the sleds and cover between 15 km and 40 kilometres a day.

There are day trips and longer trips on offer. The trips lasting several days give you the chance to stay overnight in a log cabin, or tent, grilling sausages and drinking coffee around the campfire. You might even get to see reindeer, wolverine, lynx and arctic fox, and if you are very lucky the incomparable Northern Lights. The centre has rafting and hiking activities in the summertime. On the hiking trips you take care of your very own Husky that carries your supplies. You sleep in a tent, the Husky sleeps outside.

While in spring and summertime you can enjoy trekking, mountaineering, white-water rafting, canoeing, sailing and many other adrenaline-filled pursuits.

Central and northern Sweden are dotted with winter and year-round resorts where you can enjoy skiing, dog-sledding, snow scooters, white water rafting and hiking, to mention just a few. From trekking in the serene wilderness that is Sarek National Park to pitching camp with the Sami, the indigenous people of Swedish Lapland, Sweden offers unique outdoors activities, landscapes and experiences.

Play golf in Sweden

Sweden has made a name for itself as a golfing nation with the success of golfing legend Annika Sörenstam and leading PGA Tour players Carl Petterson and Henrik Stenson. This is an achievement made more remarkable given Sweden’s long winters, but unsurprising given the quality of Sweden’s golf courses.
