Kayaking at Island Borgen in Stockholm archipelago

Experience the Swedish countryside from the perspective of its rivers and streams, in one of the most nature-friendly forms of travel. Paddling along winding waterways brings you close to the intricacies of the Swedish natural environment.

Gliding gently on the water, forests and groves drift slowly by, occasionally giving way to meadows and fields, churches and farms, or idyllic villages and small towns. And then back again to forests again - the cycle of the countryside.

Sweden's many canoeing routes are dotted with numerous places to stop and camp, providing ample opportunity to sleep under the stars. Most equipment can be hired and excellent maps are available. Contact the local tourist office where you're headed for more information.

White-water rafting is thrilling, with a degree of difficulty to suit everyone. Sweden has plenty of choices to offer, from easy currents (Class 1) to foaming white-water rapids (Class 4). You can choose to indulge in just a couple of hours of rafting to satisfy your curiosity, or take off on a weeklong adventure with pack and tent.

Whatever the shape or form of your adventure, authorised guides guarantee the safety of everyone on board. Contact the local tourist office wherever you're headed for more information.
