Bike Trails

There are many wonderful bike paths in Sweden's unbeatable countryside. For example, you can bike around a lake such as Vänern, Vättern, Tåkern or Siljan, or alongside the Göta Canal.

One of the most popular areas for biking holidays is Gotland: The flat landscape offers a wide choice of bike rentals, youth hostels, hotels, restaurants and interesting cultural and natural monuments. There are also paths with different themes such as the Astrid Lindgren path (Jönköping - Västervik). For those with a lot of time on their hands, there is the bike path along the east coast, from Ystad in the south to Haparanda in the north. A bike ride along the High Coast area offers an abundance of experiences with the area being Sweden's latest addition to UNESCO's World Heritage list.

In addition to the bike paths there is a multitude of narrow winding gravel or asphalt tracks through leafy deciduous forests along meadows and pastureland. With the help of a good map, it is relatively easy selecting your own bike paths in the part of Sweden that interests you most. Southern Sweden is ordinarily best suited for biking with children as the distances between settlements, service stations, accommodation facilities etc in Norrland are sometimes lengthy.

You can rent a bike, child seat and baggage trailer and plan your own journey or book one of the packages where everything is pre-booked, rental bike, accommodation, map, information on sights, etc. You can take your bike on the boats, for example, the Stockholm archipelago for SEK 30-50 extra if you decide to bike around the archipelago. You can also take your bike on the train, although it is necessary to pre-book a few days in advance and there is a charge.
