Fulufjället is situated in the north-west of Dalarna County close to Sweden’s border with Norway and it is one of the few unexploited areas of the region. At 1,000 metres in altitude the plateau is surrounded by tumbling slopes and thick, forest-clad ravines and canyons and below these ancient forest.

If you are coming to Fulufjället then you will absolutely want to see Njupeskär, whether in its winter finery, when it is cloaked in solid ice or in summertime as it cascades down the sheer cliff face. It is an impressive site, as are the valleys, the unspoiled forest and the numerous wetlands that are the habitat of a variety of wild birds that live here. One of them, the Siberian jay is the emblem of Fulufjället national park.

While on the subject of wildlife the park arranges bear tracking by an experienced guide who will show you how to ‘read’ the signs that this magnificent animal leaves behind. Other animals that reside in the park, or wander through it are lynx, wolves and elk.
