Gränna

Charming Gränna town nestles on the banks of Lake Vättern in central Sweden and is a short ferry ride away from the pretty island of Visingö.

The town lies at the foot of Gränna Mountain, which is topped by the ruins of a castle that burned down long ago. Gränna is rightly famous for its ‘olde worlde’ charm, brightly coloured wooden buildings, narrow streets and its gardens that burst into life in spring. If you get the chance taste the locally grown pears - they are a treat.

Gränna is also famous for its peppermint rock of all shapes and sizes and you can see it being made in the bakeries around town. With hot-air balloon rides in the summer months, the sights and sounds of Gränna come together to make it a great place for families. Also in the summer months there are midsummer celebrations, concerts, regattas and the peppermint rock-making world championships. Shouldn’t be missed.

In the town there are many cafés to stop off at, between visits to the Andrée Museum and gardens, shopping trips to the local handicraft stores and before hopping on a ferry to Visingö to see its historic sights and taste the delicious local fare.
