SkiStar Åre

Åre is actually three distinct resorts in the Swedish mountains; Åre Village, Åre Björnen and Duved/Tegefjäll. Åre Village played host to the Alpine Skiing World Championships in 2007, so its hard-core skiing credentials are second to none. And if you’re the ‘ski hard, party hard’ type then the nightlife here will blow your thermal socks off. As will the close-to-the-slope accommodation, designers shop, cool café ad choice of eateries.

At the other end of the scale is Åre Björnen (‘Björnen’ – bear) a perfect resort for parents with young children. The slopes are gentle and the activities for kids are many, including their own ski school and après ski in the village square, ‘Barnets hus’ a fun-packed activity centre for the young ones, a fun park and last, but not least ‘Björnlandet’ (Bearland). There is also a supermarket, many restaurants and family amenities and great accommodation.

Duved/Tegefjäll is known for its ‘big country’ skiing, particularly the rocky ravines and forests of Mount Mullfjället and its amazing scenery. Not as big or bustling as Åre Village, Duved/Tegefjäll is really for families with older children who love skiing. Accommodation is excellent and all close to the slopes. You can choose from hotels, guesthouses and cozy cabins. In the village there are plenty of good quality restaurants, cafés and amenities.
