Restaurant Ájtte is a Sámi owned restaurant that serves Sámi food. Gunda and her family have been awarded for their cuisine several times and are recommended in Sweden’s White Guide (restaurant guide book). Local produced reindeer and fish is served throughout the year. The restaurant is located in the same building as the Ájtte Museum in Jokkmokk.
Restaurant Ájtte in Jokkmokk can create SlowFood Sápmi events, serve gourmet food a la carte and in detail tell where the products come from and the history of dishes. As well they serve a sturdy daily lunch with freshly baked Sámi bread gaahka warm in the brad basket. Their Sámi cuisine is a lustful and tasty trip in Sámi culture. “The road to knowledge, as we see it, passes through the stomach”, says owner Gunda Åstot.
