Skansen is a living, working Sweden of the 1900s and a place where events, festivals and celebrations are held.
It holds a special place in the hearts of Stockholmers as this is where they come as children to learn about their cultural heritage and to visit the zoo and many other attractions. Skansen is a 15-minute bus, tram or boat ride from the city centre.
There are many historical buildings here to see. Skansen also has a zoo with elks, wolves, lynxes, wolverines and many other Scandinavian animals. Kids can take pony-riding tours from the stables and watch as the keepers feed the animals. It is well worth spending a whole day at Skansen. Apart from Christmas Eve, it is open every day.
