The might and power of Sweden in the 17th century at Skoklosters.

Carl Gustaf Wrangel, the 17th century owner of Skoklosters didn’t spend very much time here as he was out collecting art, weapons, books and other artefacts, or at war in the service of Sweden in Germany and Poland. This was in a period when Sweden was a great power in Europe and Mr Wrangel’s wealth would make Bill Gates blush. This must be one of the finest examples of a 17th century palace in Europe and the interiors, with their rich tapestries, friezes, paintings, furniture and statues are breathtaking. The armoury alone contains 2,000 items that were collected or taken as spoils of war. Meanwhile, the palace has a collection of a thousand paintings, the majority of them portraits. Every year in July the palace and historic town of Skokloster host an event celebrating Sweden down the ages. The many colourful events include an exciting medieval jousting tournament.
