  World Championships in Bandy will take place on the 18 – 25th of January 2009 and the host of the championships will be the City of Västerås. In Västerås there is a top modern arena for Bandy, ABB Arena, and it will be used as the main arena for most of the matches in the tournament.

  The main attraction during the festival, is the Snow Sculpture Competition. Kiruna Snowfestival has grown to one of the mightiest snow event in Europe.

  Vikingarännet is an annual ice-skating race taking place on Lake Mälaren, between Uppsala and Stockholm, approximetly 80km. Vikingarännet normally takes place in the mid of February. The date will be set about 1-2 weeks before.

  The annual Göteborg Horse Show in the Scandinavium Arena was held for the first time in the spring of 1977. Since then over 2 miljon visitors have seen the great stars competing in Göteborg, in showjumping as well as in dressage. Göteborg Horse Show has been voted best indoor horse show in the world by International Jumping riders in 2006. In addition to the World Cup Final classes you will be able to see many other competitions and amazing shows.

  Vasaloppet Ski Race. The world’s longest cross-country race between Sälen and Mora in Dalarna covering 90 km (56 miles) with some 30,000 participants. The week begins on the 20 th of February, with something for the whole family, KortVasan, 30 km in classic style from Oxberg. Then follow TjejVasan, Öppet spår, StafettVasan, HalvVasan, SkejtVasan, the whole week culminating with Vasaloppet itself on March 1.

  Svenska Skidspelen are host for the VIESSMANN FIS WORLD CUP FINALS. Four competitions with start in Stockholm March 18 and continue to Falun for the challenge to be the Queen and King of Mördarbacken on Friday March 20, pursuit on Saturday and the exciting finish on Sunday with handicap start. A lot of extra points that will make the World Cup alive until the last day.

  You can collect a whole load of junk in the course of a year. And (in Sweden) much of it ends up on the Walpurgis bonfire – old doors and fencing, branches from pruned fruit trees, discarded bushes and old cardboard boxes. The bonfires are lit all over the country on 30 April.
