The Inlandsbanemuseet tells the story of one of the world’s great train journeys; the Inlandsbanan, from Kristinehamn in the south of Sweden to Gällivare in the north. The museum is housed in a disused railway stationhouse in Sorsele in Lapland.
The Inlandsbanan is an extraordinary 1,289 km-long train trip that takes you from the flatlands of the south to the rugged wilderness of the polar circle.
The Inlandsbanemuseet tells the story of the building of the railway at the beginning of the 20th century and visions of new cities that would be built around it. At the time this was ‘frontier country’ and the museum depicts the lives and stories of the people who worked on the building of the railway and on the trains. It is also filled with interesting and culturally vital railway artifacts and paraphernalia of bygone days.
Make the Inlandsbanemuseet one of your stop-offs on this rail journey of a lifetime.
