Fatmomakke ‘churchtown’ lies at the foot of Marsfjällen in north-east Sweden. Small wooden houses and log cabins dot the banks of the river and the mountainside.
Ancient peoples met here, as is proved by archaeological finds. The first church was built in the 18th century and the first Swedish settlers arrived in the 19th century.
Binding the past with the present, Fatmomakke is still a popular meeting place for locals and visitors from around the world who come here to take in the unique environment and enjoy activities such as the Marsfjäll Nature Reserve - an 86,000 hectare area of mountains, bog and ancient forest. If you travel here by car take the scenic 400 kilometre long Wilderness Road and when you arrive you can enjoy the history of the village, as well as hill walking and fishing.
