Learn about work at the Work Museum.
The Work Museum is housed in a particularly impressive building in the heart of Norrköping.
The building is known locally as “Strykjärnet” which means ‘the iron’ – as in “ironing a shirt” in English and famous Swedish sculptor Carl Milles once commented that it was the most beautiful industrial buildings in Sweden. Indeed, until 1934 it was a textile mill and the town around it was known as “little Manchester”. The museum has many different exhibitions that raise awareness of working conditions, the female/male role at work and in society.
Not a museum in the traditional sense, but in its own way at least as important and more thought provoking.
