Sink-your-teeth-into-it good. The white Karlaby Kro restaurant and hotel sits proudly on the Österlen flatlands and is visible for miles around. A bit like a stiff meringue. But that’s about the only stiff thing here – this is a sink-your-teeth-into-it menu and makes for a meltingly good taste experience. An amuse-bouche schnapps shot of apple with cress slides down a treat. Local Viken tomatoes are topped off with a little quark. Homemade bread is served with lascivious Spanish olive oil and sea salt or indigenous Österlen rapeseed oil. Something to write home about is the 60-degree oven-steamed and jaw-droppingly delicate lobster. The butter and egg filled potato blini? Melt-in-the-mouth. Local cheeses from Vilhelmsdals Gårdsmejeri? Mostly goat and served with fig and quince jams.
