Säfsen ski resort in south-west Dalarna in central Sweden has 16 slopes, ranging from difficult to gentle, as well as 115 km of x-country track, with various activities along its way. It lies just 270 kilometres from Stockholm and 340 kilometres from Gothenburg.
Säfsen is small-scale, with the onus on quality and is purpose-built for families. It has an area called ‘Filuriland’ which is just for the kids where ‘Filurius’ an elk character and others keep the kids amused and therefore happy. Filurius lives in a long cabin and you and the kids can visit him and his family. There are barbecue spots as well as snowy picnic areas for you to relax with the family.
The majority of accommodation is in comfortable, red-coloured wood chalets, close to the lifts and amenities, as well as smaller apartments and larger private residences.
In addition to the ‘Kidpark’ and ‘Kidskicross’, there is a ski school for kids and adults. If the little nippers get bored of skiing, which we doubt, take them on a scooter safari, go sledging, or go for a hot tub. There is also a playroom at Hyttan where the kids can enjoy various kid-centric activities and watch movies. The eateries at Säfsen include Solbergs Wärdhus & Café, Soltoppen, the Smedjan Bar and Hyttan Kök & Bar, all of whom pride themselves in offering local produce and delicacies – and special menus for the kids.
