The Cathedral Of Uppsala is the largest church building in Scandinavia, standing an imposing 118.7 metres tall above the historic city of Uppsala. It took 175 years to build and when you visit it you will see why.
For centuries pilgrims have flocked to the cathedral to see the reliquary of Erik the Holy, patron saint of Sweden whose remains and crown are preserved here. Other sites worth seeing include the high altar and the stain glass windows, particularly the window of the Son and the window of the Spirit. Many famous Swedes are buried in the cathedral, including world famous naturalist Carl Linnaeus and Dag Hammersköld, General Secretary of the United nations.
Uppsala Cathedral is a national shrine, as well as a living, working church.
