You're surrounded by a magnificent countryside, which is ideal for fishing, canoeing, cycling and horseback riding. If you want to try out some different activities here are a few suggestions:
Starting in southern Sweden we have Skåne Zoo with more than 700 Nordic wild animals. More than 85 different species are on show in a beautiful Skåne country setting, along with a petting zoo, playground etc.
There are more animals to be seen at the Öland Zoo and Amusement Park, including lions, tigers, monkeys, camels, zebras and many other species. There's also a large amusement park, a circus, water slides and much more!
Heading inland you can visit Astrid Lindgren's World where you will meet Pippi Longstocking, Emil and many of the other characters from Astrid Lindgren's books in an exciting theme park which has become very popular.
Towards the West Coast you can stop at Borås Zoo before arriving in Gothenburg and Scandinavia's largest amusement park Liseberg. It has more than 30 exciting rides and other attractions - gentle ones for the smallest children and tough challenges for their young and old alike.
Continuing north along the West Coast you can visit the Nordic Ark Endangered Species Center, with Nordic species like the mountain fox, wolf, otter, sea eagle etc.
To the east is Skara Sommarland, with Scandinavia's largest water park, a motor stadium, funfair, toddlers' playground and loads of exciting entertainment. Traveling further east to Kolmården Zoo, Scandinavia's largest, where you can also drive through the Safari Park to see the lions, bears and elk at close quarters. In addition there's a dolphinarium where the dolphins put on a really world-class display!
Stockholm gives us a real feast for children with sights like Skansen, the world's oldest open-air museum, where you will discover the Sweden of yesteryear and see Nordic animals like elk, bears and wolves. Not far from Skansen is Junibacken, a fairytale house full of fun and laughter where you'll meet some of the characters from Astrid Lindgren's well-known children's books. Only a stone's throw away is the Vasa Museum, the home of the majestic warship built in 1628, and Gröna Lund amusement park has lots of attractions for evereyone.
If you travel northwest to Dalarna you can visit the Orsa Grönklitt bear park, where the bears wander through a natural habitat along with lynx and wolves. Visitors from all over the world come to Santaworld to meet the Swedish Santa and his helpers.
Äventyret Sommarland is actually three theme parks in one - Waterland, Summerland and Motorland, with just one admission charge.
Heading along the East Coast there's another big amusement park, Furuviks-parken in Gävle, with a zoo and lots of exciting rides. Now we have reached northern Sweden, which accounts for more than half of Sweden's total area. In the summer it's a huge land of adventure for children of all ages who enjoy outdoor activities. Walking, riding in the mountains, fishing, paddling gently in a canoe - the opportunities are infinite.
Naturally, there are also a number of different theme parks. If you are on the way to the child-friendly Årefjällen in Jämtland for outdoor activities, don't forget to stop at Jamtli Historieland in Östersund, a museum where you are transported back into history with the help of authentically dressed 18th and 19th century characters.
The most fantastic parks of all are naturally the national parks - for example, Sarek and Abisko - with their unforgettable and spectacular natural scenery.
