A wide variety within easy reach

In recent years, central Malmö has undergone a particularly positive transformation into a pleasant and friendly setting for strolling and shopping, with most shops – as well as museums, galleries, restaurants, bars and cafés – located within easy walking distance. These days, you can stroll leisurely along pedestrian streets all the way from the imposing Stora Torget square to the Triangeln shopping centre, an axis along and around which most of the most interesting and attractive shops are located.

David Design Concept Store in Malmö

If you’re a fan of design and crafts, there are a number of good shops and galleries on Engelbrektsgatan street and Lilla Torg and Davids Hall squares, including the renowned Norrgavel, David design, Moderna möbelklassiker (Modern Furniture Classics), and Olsson & Gerthel Gallery. For fashion, Lollopard and Robert & Blad are two interesting shops with clothes by edgy local designers, while Tjallamalla offers an eccentric and amusing combination of clothes, jewellery, accessories and paraphernalia.

Form Design Center, located in a 19th-century warehouse by Lilla Torg square, is Sweden´s oldest centre for design and crafts, founded in the 1960s, featuring temporary exhibitions throughout the year, and a well-stocked shop with glass, ceramics, jewellery, toys, stationery, books and more. In the same small part of central Malmö, there are also several first-class vintage furniture and design shops, with prices for Scandinavian classics that are often considerably lower than in Stockholm and certainly than in other international cities. Tapetomarama (specializing in classic wallpaper patterns) and Mani are two of the best known. The Hansa department store and the Triangeln shopping centre, Malmö´s two main venues for serious shopping, are also located within the same, conveniently strollable area.

Möllevångstorget square
For global gastronomic delights, a visit to the area around Möllevångstorget square, a ten minute walk from the centre, is an absolute must. This precinct is a multicultural scene with few equivalents in Northern Europe, boasting a colourful multitude of food markets, irresistible delis and restaurants serving up cuisine from all over the world. There´s a local saying that if you like to eat, whatever your preference may be, you can eat it in ”Möllevången”!
