Photo: Stig Kälvelid/www.imagebank.sweden.se | The magnificently laid out park boasts some 35 rides and adventures, ranging from the gentle and amusing to the downright terrifying, such as the brand new ”Kanonen” (The Canon), which shoots you out at maximum speed for a very long minute of thrilling loops, spins, vertical drops and twists. But the star feature is the giant Balder rollercoaster, often named the world´s greatest wooden rollercoaster by international aficionados. However, throughout the summer season, Liseberg is also a major magnet and meeting place for people who aren’t interested in the rides. The park offers a wide variety of shows and performances, daily dances and several popular restaurants and cafés.
After closing briefly in October, Liseberg opens again in mid November. Then it’s time for Christmas at Liseberg, which in recent years has evolved into a major event of international magnitude, with specially chartered flights arriving from Germany and the United Kingdom, full of visitors eager to experience the genuine Scandinavian Christmas atmosphere. The entire park is lit up with millions of lights; it virtually becomes one huge Christmas tree. There is a large Christmas market, traditional handicrafts, Christmas music, skiing and ice skating, restaurants serving classic Swedish Christmas smorgasbords, an ice bar and numerous other events and attractions. And Gothenburg´s Christmas celebrations extend from Liseberg to the Götaplatsen square and the Avenyn boulevard in a big collaboration project between the City, shops and restaurateurs, making Christmas in Gothenburg a highly attractive event for visitors from near and afar.
