Midnight sun at Mount Nuolja just after midnight (00:15)

 

Seeing the Northern Lights is just one of the wonders of Abisko, as is the not-to-be-missed midnight sun that lasts from 27 May until 18 July. In addition to the King’s Trail there are many hiking and trekking day tours in the park, one of them being to Mount Nuolja, part of which lies in the west of the park, offering fantastic views across Lake Torneträsk and Lapporten, the famous u-shaped valley to the south-east. All of the trails are clearly marked and well supported with huts and amenities.

Many hikers and trekkers go directly out to the Kungsleden trail, the northern gateway to which is located in Abisko. The less experienced go on day-long excursions in the area around Abisko, which is full of marked paths for walks in summer and cross-country skiing in winter.

Abisko National Park is home to the Abisko Turiststation a 300-bed facility offering various forms of accommodation.
