National Parks

Nine nature conservation areas in Sweden became the country’s first National Parks in 1909, and there are now 28 stretching right across the country. The idea behind the National Parks is to preserve different types of landscape for future generations and to allow as many as possible to enjoy their peace and tranquillity.

They are also areas where scientists can study the natural development of land formations, plants and wildlife.
