Some of Sweden’s most innovative architects and designers, including Tomas Sandell and Jonas Bohlin, have been involved in the creation of rooms at Hotel Birger Jarl.
Birger Jarl offers a special design weekend package, including some of Stockholm's design highlights. The package includes a ‘Design Kitbox’ containing two Stockholm design guides, Stockholm New Magazine, special discounts at several fashion and furniture stores, entry to a selection of museums and special offers from the city’s most stylish restaurants.
Stockholm’s Berns Hotel offers guests a unique combination of 19th century Moulin Rouge and the modern feel of Terence Conran, who re-designed the hotels stylish bar area and opened Stockholm’s first truly sophisticated international nightclub – Le. Berns offers great weekend rates that include breakfast in the grand dining room.
The Nordic Light in Stockholm offers light rooms where the light is designed to suit your mood and the season and some even have light beds where you can decide yourself how to change the lighting pattern and colouring. There are more design hotels in the capital, such as Berns and Hotel Rival owned by former ABBA member, Benny Andersson.
There is also a Stockholm design guide available from Stockholm Visitors Board.
Hotel Mäster Johan in Malmö has introduced a package where you stay in its design rooms and enjoy discounts at the local design shops. Malmö Tourist Board has just produced a leaflet to help visitors locate all the good design shopping around town and everything is walking distance.
With its unique retro style, Designhotellet in Värnamo offers some truly innovative accommodation. Much of the 50’s-style décor has either been preserved or renovated and its designer suites provide fabulous creative twists, including bicycles on walls, wild orange colour schemes and funky leather furniture.
