West Sweden: a flexible feast

West Sweden is fast acquiring an international reputation as the foodie capital of northern Europe, both for its imaginative chefs and the wealth and quality of its natural produce.

“Västsvenskmersmak” - “A Taste of West Sweden" - is an ongoing programme that encompasses 33 of West Sweden’s best restaurants, as well as several charming hotels and inns, castles and picturesque fishing villages.

This diverse province consists of 3 very different regions - coastal, farmland and forest land - each with their own speciality and theme using local produce.  By the coast you’ll find an emphasis on fresh fish and seafood, whereas in farmland areas poultry, dairy and meat are the order of the day, and lovers of game with a side order of fresh fish should head for the forests.

So if a lobster safari in the autumn or a festive smörgasbord weekend in December is your idea of a perfect break then this hidden gem shouldn’t be missed -  your only problem will be deciding where to begin!
